Design principles for multimedia presentations

A multimedia presentation is a type of presentation that uses several different forms of communication to get the message across.

Multimedia presentations go beyond the use of text and images. These presentations generally include animation, video, audio, or interactive features like forms, popups and lots more.

This week we have learned the principles of multimedia design for PowerPoint and infographic.

A good presentation slides should design according to these principles below:

  1. Do not overload information. only 1 idea per slide.
  2. No more than 6 objects per slide.
  3. Let the audience read the text, not you.
  4. Use an illustrative image and short text on a slide, and then tell the rest of your story via narration.
  5. The most important thing on your slide should be the most prominent.
  6. Use contrast to move your audience around the information on your slide.

How to make a good infographic? The 9 main points had been summarized in class:

  1. Tells a story.
  2. Takes your eyes on a pre-defined journey.
  3. Provides a new angle. Try not to just create a visual list!
  4. Has practical value.
  5. Is well structured.
  6. Sends one key message.
  7. Is visually appealing.
  8. Is accurate and well-researched.
  9. Make copy short and sweet.
